Learning In Nature

Our classes love using the outdoors to spark curiosity and guide their learning. In these photos, our K–2 teachers are helping students connect with the land through an Indigenous story about the Seasons, and then finding the beautiful colors of Fall.

Exploring Connection Through Creativity at Manitou

Our classes with students from Grades 3 to 6 recently came together at Manitou for a meaningful and imaginative outdoor experience. Using natural materials they discovered on the land, each student crafted a visual representation of something they enjoy about being in nature. They also shaped their initials using these found items, creating personal land acknowledgements that celebrate their connection to place.  Take a look at their big smiles and inspiring creations below!

Garden Time

Take a look at Ms. Ruttan's students getting their hands dirty—in the best way! Students spent time in the school garden collecting leaves to create nutrient-rich leaf mulch, which will help build up organic matter in the soil over time. And while they worked, they enjoyed snacking on fresh kale, broccoli, and pea greens straight from the garden - learning and munching in perfect harmony!

Ms. Wheeler's students rolled up their sleeves too and got to work in the back field, collecting fallen leaves. These leaves will also be turned into nutrient-rich mulch, an important step in building healthy, organic soil. It was loads of fun, and a hands-on lesson in sustainability and the power of teamwork ... one leaf at a time!

Start of the Year Garden Harvest

Our students have had an awesome time picking all kinds of veggies they planted back in the spring - and a huge shoutout to Mr. James Young too for guiding our students and running such a fantastic garden! This year’s harvest was incredible, and the kids will love seeing (and tasting!) the results of their hard work on upcoming soup days.
